Agartala/Dimapur/Shillong, 24th August, 2010: Building upon the momentum of its recent launch of GSM services in Assam, S Tel, the youngest telecom player in the state, today announced the launch of its services in the North Eastern state. Commencing its GSM services in 3 states i.e. Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, starting with towns including Agartala, Dimapur, Udaipur, Kumarghat, Ranir Bazar, Chumukedima, Jowai ,Nongpoh ,S Tel services would reach across 87 towns & over 26% of the population in the state by year end.

S Tel leaps ahead into its next phase of growth by foraying into the ‘North East Region’

New Delhi, 14th July, 2010: S Tel, a joint venture between Siva Group and Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco), today embarked upon the next phase of its growth by announcing the launch of its GSM services in Assam starting with 26 key towns. Amongst the new set of telecom entrants on the Indian mobile landscape, S Tel leads the way with foray into the North East region. The company will shortly be expanding its wings to the remaining cities of Assam and other North East states including Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Arunanchal Pradesh.

S Tel set to invest Rs. 700 cr in 3G services

New Delhi, 26 May 2010: S Tel, the youngest telecom operator to have bagged 3G licenses in the recent spectrum auctions in India, today announced its plans to invest Rs. 700 crores for acquisition of 3G spectrum and roll out of services. The company plans to raise Rs. 338 crores through a 1:1 debt to equity ratio towards license fee payment for the three circles of Bihar & Jharkhand, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh. The debt is already tied up with Indian nationalized banks via a bridge loan and the company is set to meet the timelines stipulated by DOT. S Tel is the only new operator to have bid consistently and won 3G spectrum at a high success rate, leading to acquisition of licenses in all three circles of its current operations.

S Tel garners 1 Million Customers in just 90 days

New Delhi, 21 April 2010: India’s newest mobile operator S Tel blazes ahead with gusto to offer seamless network coverage and attractive products as it clocks 1.2 million subscriber base spread across three circles of Bihar & Jharkhand, Odisha & Himachal Pradesh. The company was launched in December 2009 last year, with UASL license and spectrum to operate in six growth circles, of which three are already operational & the remaining circles of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and North East will be launched in this calendar year.

S Tel celebrates Himachal Day with a special offer for its customers

Shimla, 15 April 2010: On the occasion of Himachal Day which is being celebrated all over the state today, S Tel joined the festivity by announcing a special offer for its subscribers. The offer allowed customers to avail Rs 110 talk time on recharge of Rs 100, thereby allowing them to enjoy savings of almost Rs 20 on the recharge. The savings had built in Rs 10 bonus talk time on each recharge of Rs 100. This special offer on Himachal Day was one such initiative by the company since it began its operations in December 2009, and was valid for a day i.e. April 15, 2010.

Siva Group’s S Tel adds one more strategic investor

New Delhi, 21 January, 2010: S Tel, the Telecom Company of the Chennai based Conglomerate Siva Group, announced today, BMIC Ltd (BMIC) intends to increase its stake in S Tel to 49%. BMIC, formed by Batelco has signed a strategic partnership with Global Banking Corporation B.S.C [C] (GBCORP) for this further investment in S-Tel.

New Delhi, 17 November, 2009: S Tel Private Limited (S Tel), one of the new entrants in the Indian GSM space, today announced that it has accomplished a financial closure of its project with Rs. 2000 crores outlay, making it the first among the new telecom operators to have achieved the landmark.Eight leading public sector banks led by IDBI have come forward to provide the Rs. 953 crore long term funding of nine years to the company.

S Tel & Reliance Communications enter into a Telecom Infrastructure sharing agreement for towers, Transmission & Bulk Bandwidth

MUMBAI, 28 Aug 2009: S Tel and Reliance Infratel have signed an end-to-end telecom infrastructure agreement for telecom towers, transmission for BTS sites and fibre backbone for intercity connectivity. Reliance Communications will execute this agreement through its tower subsidiary Reliance Infratel. S Tel’s agreement with Reliance Communications covers six circles - Orissa, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, North East, Assam and J&K where the telecom operator plans to roll-out its GSM services soon.

Sivasankaran acquires control of S Tel

Mumbai, 20 Jun 2009: Prominent investor C Sivasankaran has re-entered the fledgling Indian telecom industry by acquiring a 51% stake in Chennai-based telecom firm S Tel, three-and-a-half years after it pulled out of Aircel. The deal size is estimated to be around Rs 1,150 crore, said a person close to the development.
